Peter Rehberg

Since 2018 Dr. Peter Rehberg is Head of Collection at the Schwules Museum, Berlin. He holds a PhD in Literature from New York University and has continued to research and primarily teach in the United States, i.a. at Cornell, Northwestern, and Brown. He was also a research associate at the Institute for Comparative Literature in Bonn and from 2011-2016 DAAD Associate Professor at the University of Texas in Austin. Peter Rehberg then became an Associate Fellow at the ICI Berlin – Institute for Cultural Inquiry and in 2018 Max Kade Professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago. 

His research interests include queer theory, visual culture, and popular culture. In addition to three novels and numerous journalistic texts, Peter Rehberg has published more than 25 academic articles and book contributions including texts on topics such as queer masculinity, post-pornography and the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2019 Peter Rehberg edited the text Für den Arsch originally credited to Guy Hocquenghem but actually written by Christian Maurel. For this volume, published by August Verlag, Peter Rehberg also wrote the afterword "Energy without power: Christian Maurel's theory of the anus in the context of Guy Hocquenghem and the history of Queer Theory". In 2019 b_books published Peter Rehberg's book Hipster Porn: Queere Männlichkeiten und Affektive Sexualitäten im Fanzine Butt; an English version of Hipster Porn was released by Routledge in May 2022. Peter Rehberg's current research interests include queer archive theory and contemporary queer visual culture.
