Eike Wittrock
Eike Wittrock is Professor of Dance Studies at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. In his research and teaching practice, he searches for (queer) aesthetics in historical sources of European dance history, and archives and examines the performative aspects of queer activism in the 1970s and 1980s. In doing so, he repeatedly looks at historical material together with artists and students in order to counteract the lack of imagination and limitations of the present. Recent publications include Theater* in queer everyday life and activism of the 1970s and 1980s (Neofelis Verlag, together with Jenny Schrödl). As part of the collaborative project ‘LSBTIQ* Movements and Democracy: History, Present and Future,’ he is involved in theatre workshops and bodywork within the context of the West German gay movement.
