Barbara Schnalzger

Barbara Schnalzger is a cultural historian and currently works as the managing director of the Leipzig-based institution ‘MONAliesA – feminist library and archive’. Since 2020, she has been a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Cultural Studies at the University of Leipzig. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the history and significance of German-language lesbian/women's archives and libraries from a history of knowledge perspective. In 2022, she was a Hannelore Mabry scholarship holder at the Institute for Contemporary History in Munich and in 2024 she was a scholarship holder at the Schloss Wiepersdorf Cultural Foundation. Barbara was co-founder of the feminist editorial collective ‘oustide the box – Zeitschrift für feministische Gesellschaftskritik’ (Outside the Box – Journal for Feminist Social Criticism). She is a member of the Working Group on Historical Women's and Gender Studies and part of the archive and library network of the ‘i.d.a. umbrella organisation of all German-language lesbian/women's archives, libraries and documentation centres’.
